Community rallies to support shelter overwhelmed by recent dog rescue |
We Are Saints Again Bar & Grill is stepping up to assist the Calhoun County Animal Shelter following the recent rescue of 71 dogs from a hoarding situation in Newton Township.
The shelter is currently overwhelmed and in urgent need of supplies to care for these animals.
In response, the bar and grill is organizing a pet food drive to gather much-needed donations.
Community members are encouraged to drop off pet food and other supplies at We Are Saints Again Bar & Grill.
The establishment has committed to delivering all collected items directly to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter, ensuring that the rescued dogs receive the care they need.
On October 21, deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriffâs Office responded to a report of possible animal neglect at a residence on 8 1/2 Mile Road near G Drive South.
Upon arrival, they discovered 71 dogs living in unsanitary and hazardous conditions, including animal waste and a strong odor of urine throughout the home.
Many of the dogs were in poor health, and a deceased dog was found in the backyard.
The homeowner, a 68-year-old woman, voluntarily surrendered the animals, which were then transported to the Calhoun County Animal Shelter for evaluation and treatment.
The shelter has been working tirelessly to care for the influx of animals.
In a social media post, the shelter described the dogs as "around 25 pounds and under and are filthy and matted."
They have reached out to other shelters for assistance and are in need of community support to provide for the rescued dogs.
We Are Saints Again Bar & Grill is calling on the community to contribute to the pet food drive.
Donations of pet food, blankets, and other supplies can be dropped off at the bar and grill during business hours.
Every contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of these rescued animals.
For those interested in adopting any of the surrendered animals, please contact the Calhoun County Animal Shelter at 269.963.6582.
Your support can help provide these dogs with the loving homes they deserve.
