There's something magical about autumn in Michigan.

The trees turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold, the air grows crisp, and even an ordinary walk around the neighborhood feels like an adventure.

Now imagine enjoying those beautiful fall days with a four-legged best friend by your side.

At the Calhoun County Animal Center in Battle Creek, 37 dogs are being highlighted as waiting for adoption.

That's 37 opportunities for local families to discover the companionship and joy that a dog can bring into a home.

Meet five faces hoping for forever homes

Bailey A. is a female shepherd-type dog, approximately 1–3 years old and 65 pounds.

With her warm brown eyes, adorable ears and curious expression, Bailey has a face that's hard to resist.

Curry is a male husky-type dog, approximately 6–8 months old and 46 pounds.

Still a youngster, Curry has striking blue eyes and an unforgettable expression.

Maxx is a male bully-type dog, approximately 3–5 years old and 50 pounds.

His expressive face and handsome gray-and-tan coloring are sure to catch someone's attention.

Cookie is a female terrier-type dog, approximately 1.5 years old and 67 pounds.

With her cheerful expression and distinctive black-and-white markings, Cookie looks like she has a smile ready for everyone she meets.

Finley is a male Australian Shepherd-type dog, approximately 2–4 years old and 56 pounds.

Finley's gorgeous multicolored coat, fluffy fur and happy-looking face make him a standout.

These five are just a few of the dogs in the Animal Center's latest adoption photo collection.

Fall is better with a dog by your side

A dog has a way of encouraging us to get outside and enjoy the little things.

A walk through the neighborhood becomes a chance to explore, and a trip to the park becomes an adventure.

Even a quiet evening at home feels a little warmer when a furry companion settles in nearby.

Of course, adopting a dog is a long-term commitment involving exercise, training, veterinary care, patience and love.

The right match depends on your household, your activity level and each dog's individual needs.

Thirty-seven dogs means the community can make a difference

With so many dogs looking for families, the Calhoun County Animal Center could use the community's help spreading the word.

Every adoption is a chance for one dog to begin a new chapter, and it helps the shelter continue its work caring for animals in need.

If you aren't ready to adopt, sharing photos with friends, donating or asking about volunteer opportunities can still make a meaningful difference.

Sometimes the right person simply hasn't seen the right dog yet.
