Battle Creek All Species Kinship: Standing Strong for the Forgotten |
From abandoned geese to miracle pups, A.S.K. fights for every life others overlook. |
In Southwest Michigan, All Species Kinship (A.S.K.) has built a reputation as one of the most relentless animal advocates in the region.
Their work spans everything from rescuing abandoned geese walking into traffic to finding safe homes for dogs like Nar and Axl, animals failed by people but not by A.S.K.
Recently, two unlikely companions, a domestic Chinese goose and an injured Canada goose were discovered begging in Kalamazoo’s busy streets.
Unable to fly, they wandered dangerously into traffic in search of food. Thanks to Ashley, a friend to animals, the pair was safely captured and brought into quarantine.
Today, the Chinese goose has joined A.S.K.’s domestic flock while the Canada goose, once rehabilitated, was released back to the wild.
Stories like these highlight the ongoing crisis of domestic bird abandonment across Michigan.
Yet, thanks to A.S.K.’s outreach, Calhoun County has seen nearly no such abandonments in the past two years are a testament to the power of education.
And then there is Ozzy. At only six weeks old, he was found tied inside a garbage bag, discarded roadside and left for dead. Covered in maggots, seizing from head trauma, blind, and partially deaf, Ozzy had every reason to give up.
But he didn’t. With emergency care and ongoing love, Ozzy has grown into a joyful pup and a living reminder of why A.S.K. never stops fighting for animals others throw away.
For 25 years, A.S.K. has stood firm in its mission. Rescue, they remind us, isn’t for the faint of heart.
It takes armor, compassion, and resilience.
Their no-nonsense approach may be blunt, but it’s effective, because at the heart of it all are the animals.
That’s why we’re proud to include A.S.K. in the Animal Alliance.
