Major Update on Dog Hoarding Situation in Calhoun County

Community and Rescues Unite to Rehome 68 Dogs

🔥 Trending

In a remarkable display of community spirit, all 68 dogs rescued from a recent hoarding situation in Newton Township have found new beginnings, thanks to the collaborative efforts of local rescue organizations and dedicated individuals.

Saving Souls Pet Alliance, West Michigan Humane Society, Harbor Humane, Unleashed Love, Dalis to the Rescue, and Animal Aid of Branch County are among the many groups that stepped up to provide these dogs with the care and homes they desperately needed.

A special acknowledgment goes to Danielle Kolberg for her exceptional coordination in organizing the rescue schedules, ensuring each dog was placed efficiently and compassionately.

Grooming services were generously provided by Pawfect Impressions and Michele Manik, who dedicated their time to ensure the dogs were comfortable and presentable for their new homes.

Additionally, Phyllis Quinn offered invaluable assistance with laundry and cleaning tasks, while Evianne DuBois conducted thorough assessments of the dogs' health and behavior.

The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming. Donations of food and funds have ensured that the dogs received proper care during their transition. The majority of these contributions will be forwarded to the shelters that have taken in these animals, further supporting their ongoing care.

The staff at the Calhoun County Animal Center have also been instrumental during this challenging time. Their dedication and hard work have been pivotal in managing the situation and facilitating the successful rehoming of the dogs.

For those who have reached out to offer assistance, please know that your generosity is deeply appreciated. The center will continue to accept donations of small breed and puppy food, as well as monetary contributions for veterinary care. The lobby will be open on October 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM to accept these donations.

This collective effort underscores the strength and compassion of the Calhoun County community, demonstrating that together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of animals in need.
