Humane Society of South Central Michigan Seeks Support Amid Rising Costs |
Local shelter faces increased expenses while continuing to serve homeless pets in Battle Creek |
The Humane Society of South Central Michigan is reaching out to the community for support as inflation and increased operational costs make it more challenging to care for the cats and dogs at their Battle Creek facility.
Located at 2500 Watkins Road, HSSCM provides shelter and care for homeless pets in the region. Unlike some organizations, the Humane Society does not receive government or tax dollar support, nor does it receive funding from the national Humane Society of the United States. One hundred percent of donations raised locally are used right here at the Watkins Road facility.
How to Adopt
HSSCM is currently open by appointment only for approved adopters. Interested families can download an adoption application from the organization's website and submit it via email, fax, or mail. Once approved, staff will schedule a convenient appointment time.
The lobby is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 4:00 p.m. for donations and inquiries. However, animals may not be viewed without an approved application and scheduled appointment.
Prospective pet parents can view photos and videos of available pets on the organization's Facebook page or on Petfinder.com.
Ways to Help
There are several ways community members can support HSSCM's mission:
... Financial donations ... Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of homeless pets ... Volunteer ... The organization is entirely volunteer-run and always needs helping hands ... Adopt ... Give a homeless pet a forever home ... Spread the word ... Share available pets on social media
Donations can be made online through the HSSCM website. The organization also accepts supply donations during lobby hours.
Community Resources
HSSCM maintains a comprehensive community resources page on their website, offering information on local ordinances, help finding services, lost and found pet reporting, owner surrender options, and youth engagement programs.
The Canine Training Institute at HSSCM promotes positive relationships between people and dogs through education and training at all life stages.
For more information about adopting, donating, or volunteering, visit hsscm.org or call during lobby hours.
